In this camp, students will delve into character development and storytelling within comics and manga. Students will be introduced to character design through a variety of drawing styles before developing a unique character and narrative and creating a comic-style panel using traditional materials like pencils, colored pencils, and watercolors, as well as digital media using the iPad and Apple Pencil. We will print their digital comics so they can be taken home! The instructor will also discuss figure proportion, composition, and methods of brainstorming. Students can pick the style of drawing they use to create their comics. Students are encouraged to execute their comics in the style of their choosing, ex: Japanese Anime/Manga style or more Traditional cartooning style. But, the main focus of the course is on how to create strong storyboards for cartoons/comics rather than focusing on a specific style of drawing.
