This camp will help you learn about measuring ingredients, how to follow a recipe, gardening and harvesting, and how to make healthy choices in food preparation. Chess Camp is a fun way to introduce chess to newcomers of the game as well as deepen the understanding of the game for intermediate players. Whether you are interested in casual or competitive chess, this camp is for you. Pins, forks, skewers, discoveries, sacrifices, and defending against the ATTACK! Understanding the game’s basic fundamentals and scenarios is the goal of this camp. Players are placed in groups according to skill levels to practice strategy and moves while expanding their critical thinking skills, concluding with a fun, in-class tournament. Chess Master Jason Clark and his team will lead this camp. C

Don’t let this be a Cruel Summer! Swifties unite and join us as we have our own Era’s Tour at NCS! From making and trading frienship bracelets to karaoke dance parties, this Specialty Camp strives to foster a supportive community where young Swifties can express themselves, make lifelong memories, share their love for Taylor Swift, and live out their Wildest Dreams. Campers will channel their favorite Grammy award-winning artist and walk the Red carpet—where they’ll never go out of Style. Campers will be Bejeweled with rhinestones and glitter to make their whole world shimmer. So, all that’s left to ask is…are you Ready for It? Campers, just say yes! This camp is led by New City teacher Paije Croghan.

Come and “tinker” with us! Campers will design, build, concoct, and discover as they explore a variety of materials and tinker the day away. Tinkering encourages creative and flexible thinking, problem solving and cooperative learning with friends. AND IT’S FUN! Campers will enjoy weekly challenges to experiment with various materials to design works of art, build structures using loose parts, concoct potions and edible investigations, and discover the natural world guided by their curiosity. Campers will create IDEA journals to record their “tinker” creations.

Come explore a variety of art forms from around the world. Experiment with a variety of art materials including wire, paint, sculpting clay, tile, tie-dye and more. How about painting blindfolded or body painting outside? Have a paint relay race or collect leaves, rocks, sticks, etc and use them as tools to make an original masterpiece. Take a daytrip someplace exciting , get the highest score bowling and who knows where else to end the summer!

Unplug from the year and explore never-boring board games, card games, and playground games in this fun filled session. Flag football, Capture the Flag, GaGa, Kick the Can, Dragontails, Kickball, Wiffleball, Pickleball, all things ball!

Experiment with sound-sensing marvels, master line-tracking wonders, and so much more! Throughout the week, you'll accumulate a wealth of knowledge and skills which you’ll use to create your own working robot to take home with you. It's a week filled with exploration, excitement, and the chance to become a budding robotics expert!

Join New City’s two science teachers, Tom Rankin and Eric Eskelsen, for a week in the Tom Hoerr Innovation Lab and Kitchen. Campers will get a chance to explore with our tools, laser cutters, and 3D printers as they learn about electricity, coding, and the design process. We will also spend time in the kitchen learning some of the science behind cooking. Makers will also get a chance to create their own solar oven. SUPER COOL!

Roll up your sleeves, put on your makers cap, and get ready to create! This is our most hands-on camp! Who can build the strongest bridge? Can your bridge withstand the shake rattle and roll challenge? Explore the world of birds and beasts. Discover what Hooty the owl had for dinner? Kids will dissect owl pellets and reconstruct Hooty’s dinner. Enter the Mad Science chemistry lab and mix, mash, and brew concoctions! Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, simple machines, and megapinchers! Campers will discover the wonders of light and photography. It’s a week packed with non-stop science fun!

Harnessing the power of arcade tool kits, students will delve into foundational learning while grasping the intricate connections between components. These kits, featuring LED lights, a numerical monitor, LED Display fan, music notes, and more, o“er a secure and stimulating environment for hands-on exploration. Through the assembly of these elements, students are encouraged to unleash their creativity and build personalized arcade machines. This experiential approach merges theoretical with a practical application, providing a dynamic learning opportunity that nurtures innovative engineering skills.

Creative discovery is what it’s all about as the arts disciplines blend together in this exciting camp. Campers enjoy fun-filled days exploring drama, visual art, creative movement, and music with professional teaching artists. Children share highlights of their week each Friday afternoon for family and friends.
