The Judson University Architecture and Interior Design Workshop is based on the exploration and discovery of design and architectural foundations while gaining an understanding of what it means to become an architect or interior designer. The week is filled with visits to downtown Chicago, architectural and interior design firms, presentations from Judson faculty, and foundational design projects. The students are exposed to formal and spatial exercises and multi-step projects focused on divergent thinking and creative problem-solving. In the University’s architectural and interior design studios, students create two-dimensional motifs that are developed into patterns and ultimately, various three-dimensional compositions, allowing for the “play” and discovery of new and more exciting compositions as the design process unfolds with every new step. Beyond the hands-on experience of the studio and the downtown field trip, the architecture workshop at Judson University strives to present the aspect of our accredited program that makes us unique from all others: our evangelical Christian mission, presenting Christ at work in our school and the architectural and interior design fields. It is our hope that the lessons of this week will result in participants learning to think in new ways and discover a better understanding of God’s will for their lives.
