The Barrett Summer Scholars (BSS) program provides students with the opportunity to experience college firsthand and prepare for enrollment and success at Arizona State University and Barrett, the Honors College. The program is designed for academically talented and motivated students entering the 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th grade in Fall 2023. BSS invites students to engage in college-level coursework and participate in a community of peers from across the state.

Game Design and Theory is an introduction and exploration of not only board games but tabletop games of all types and the role these games play in our lives. This course will analyze game fundamentals, everything from dexterity to worker placement to abstract mechanisms.

Are you interested in health and how exercise can help you be healthier? Have you wondered how the body works and the testing practices used to identify and treat diseases? Gain hands-on experience in the health and exercise science field and insight into the many career opportunities available in the different disciplines of exercise science. We will explore the opportunities available in the job market at places that might not be realized. There will also be basic hands-on experiences with hardware and software giving students a taste of what it’s like to work as a programmer. This Institute explores technology from the inside out.

The Coastal Fisheries Camp is a fun and intense 5-day academic camp that introduces high school students to the marine environment. The camp is designed to give students a better understanding and appreciation of the various fields in marine science. Students will stay in the dorms on the Dauphin Island Sea Lab campus and participate in a variety of activities academic activities. Students will have the opportunity to observe and work with plankton nets, seine nets, water sampling bottles, refractometers and water quality test kits and other equipment. They will also collect and identify marine species from various habitats, participate in lab and field discussions, all under the guidance of award winning marine and aquatic educators from Auburn University and Dauphin Island Sea Lab.

The Duke Pre-College Program provides advanced academic opportunities and an introduction to the college experience to students currently in grades 6-11. The Summer Multicultural Engineering Training (SUMMET) program is an engineering, science, and technology program designed for rising juniors and seniors who are from underrepresented populations, including ethnic/racial minorities, women, and prospective first-generation college students. Only students from Colorado and Oklahoma are eligible to apply to the program.

This nearly two-week-long summer program lets you experience college life, meet new friends, dive into cool STEM projects and basically have a blast using all the knowledge you’ve gained in 11 years of school.
