Better Family Life's Youth Leadership Academy (YLA) builds the leadership skills and capacity of St. Louis Youth to weigh in on policies that impact their daily lives as a youth in our community.

Each Overnight provides a two-day, one-night overnight camp experience.

Step back in time to 800 A.D. and discover the fascinating world of Medieval Ireland! Immerse yourself in the lives of Irish monastics, whose intricate artwork was so awe-inspiring that it was called “the work of angels.” Over the course of a week, campers will experience the beauty, creativity, and challenges of monastic life through hands-on activities like singing, gardening, cooking, and bookmaking. At the end of the camp, you’ll take home your own hand-bound, beautifully illustrated book, written in your own calligraphy. But life in Medieval Ireland wasn’t always serene—monastics also faced the looming threat of Viking invasions. Learn about the fierce Vikings, witness a live fighting demonstration, and even practice defending yourself against a simulated raid!

Our summer sessions provide a lengthier stay totaling a four day, three-night overnight camp opportunity

Ages 8-15. If you love to sing and dance, and meet other kids who share your love of musical theatre, this camp is for you! Spend two weeks inside the Robert G. Reim Theater learning from a professional director, musical director, and choreographer to improve your acting, singing, and dancing skills. Camp concludes with a matinee perfomrance and evening performance, where friends and family can enjoy the show. Camp also includes an afternoon swimming at Kirkwood Aquatic Center and outdoor play time between rehearsals. Performances on 8/1 at 2 and 7 PM.

Summerscape is a summer program for gifted students who are currently enrolled in grades 6, 7 and 8. Gifted students are offered an opportunity to enhance their areas of interest, to investigate new ideas and to interact with their peers in a caring, safe, and fun learning environment. Besides participating in courses not offered in most schools, students familiarize themselves with life on a university campus. Classes meet Monday – Friday. Please check the information you receive after you register for times and locations. Classes meet July 14 – 18. The residential program runs July 13 – 20.
