Welcome to the Retro-Tech Reverse Engineering Summer Camp for Middle School Students! Dive into a world where vintage appliances become the building blocks of innovation. In this hands-on camp, participants will unlock the secrets of old-school gadgets, from analog radios to vintage gaming consoles. Through disassembly, analysis, and reassembly, campers will unravel the inner workings of these classic devices, gaining insights into engineering principles and design concepts. Join us for a summer of exploration, as we turn nostalgia into knowledge and inspire the next generation of tech enthusiasts!

Please join us for this summer’s Festival slated for July 13-August 1 as we continue to grow and present the highest quality chamber music to Central Illinois. The camp for strings, piano, winds, and harp will be held at Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) in Bloomington, IL.

For more than 60 years, Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM) has helped young musicians improve their artistry, strengthen their self-confidence, and embark on professional careers. Junior and senior high school students perform with large band, orchestra, chorus, and jazz ensembles or attend intensive, specialized instrumental programs. Students return home with newly developed skills, a lifelong sense of discipline, and in-depth training. Designed for senior high students who play wind, brass and percussion instruments, the primary focus of this program is developing the finest wind ensemble experience and individual artistry as a member of the ISYM Senior Band program.

Whether you’re a beginner or an intermediate artist, this program fosters growth through creative problem-solving, technical exploration, and professional mentorship. Campers will work with materials and techniques in sculpture, photography, graphic design, and more, guided by professional artists and educators

Each year, SCC is proud to host our summer Jazz Camp, which introduces promising musicians to big band sound and some of the top jazz performers and educators in the country.

The Wilderness Skills and Nature Camp is a transformative journey filled with exciting activities and hands-on skills that will create lasting memories and foster a profound connection to the great outdoors. A growing body of research shows that being in nature can greatly benefit our physical and emotional well-being. Nature reduces our stress levels, improves our moods, and builds our attention. In fact, policymakers, employers, and healthcare professionals are all looking for ways to encourage people to connect more with nature. Career opportunities in ecopsychology and other natural sciences are growing. Additionally, our natural world needs our thoughtful protection as new threats to our ecosystem emerge. The Wilderness Skills and Nature Camp will primarily occur on campus in our nature areas featuring both prairie grasslands and forest. We’ll also take field trips to the Lindenwood Nature Preserve for hiking. Indoor activities include an introduction to how to use a microscope and view plankton under a microscope. Campers will learn from experts about our natural resources, how to care and advocate for them, and how to experience and appreciate them.

Every June, approximately 500 teenagers converge on the campus of Iowa State University for 3 days full of speakers, workshops, mixers, dances, a banquet, and service-learning activities.
