Is it a bird? Is it a plane? It’s everything that flies! (Superheroes Excluded)… From the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights, this hands-on program focuses on aerodynamics and the world above us! Campers build many different flying devices and put them to the test! Traveling further up, campers investigate the wonders of our very own Milky Way. They join their fellow “astronauts” as we send an awesome Mad Science rocket to the moon…well at least into the sky. Offered in Partnership with Mad Science St. Louis.

Roll up your sleeves, put on your makers cap, and get ready to create! This is our most hands-on camp! Campers will build their very own geodesic dome large enough for the entire camp to sit in. Who can build the strongest bridge? Can your bridge withstand the shake rattle and roll challenge? Explore the world of birds and beasts with bird feeder building and our super bug investigation. Speaking of birds, what did Hooty the owl have for dinner? A mouse? A Squirrel? A Frog? Kids will dissect owl pellets and reconstruct Hooty’s dinner. Enter the Mad Science chemistry lab and mix, mash, and brew concoctions to create cool sidewalk chalk and bath fizzers! Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, simple machines, and megapinchers! Campers will discover the wonders of photography and make their own chromatography-dyed T-shirt. It’s a week packed with non-stop science fun!

Students will build their own droid, give it new abilities using block-based coding, and take it on 22+ missions. Collaborate with your teammates and launch your robot rescue mission to save the stranded planetary explorers before time runs out! Program your robot to navigate autonomously through challenging alien LEGO® terrain full of traps and pitfalls. Leverage ultrasonic, touch, rotation, and light sensors to enable your robot to locate rescue targets and return to base as quickly as possible. Make improvements to get the fastest rescue time, and attempt more challenging rescue missions for more points. Just don't get stranded! Robust programming design will be emphasized, including the use of loops, switch statements, and data wiring. Dynamic use of variables will also be taught with the intent of showing students how to account for different scenarios their robots might encounter… Good luck on your rescue mission... you'll need it! Students will choose one weather disaster such as hurricanes, tornadoes, cyclones, earthquakes, volcanoes, droughts, wild fires, tsunamis, and floods to survive and plan for safety.

Do you love cars, trucks, and aircraft? Come learn how to construct a garbage truck, bulldozer, helicopter, and forklift using LEGO® WeDo 2.0 kits. Then, learn how to program these machines to do amazing things! Participants will be required to use critical thinking skills to program their vehicles to complete various challenges. After learning how to construct and program different models of machines, participants will have the opportunity to design and build their own!

Sumo Wrestling with LEGO® EV3 Robotics Design a sumo wrestling LEGO® Mindstorms EV3 robot to grapple processor-to-processor and force your opponent outside the ring. Implement effective programming strategies to leverage the robotic sensors you have chosen and earn the rank of yokozuna (“grand champion”). Students will learn how to use ultrasonic, touch, light and other useful EV3 sensors that will be helpful in the design of their sumo wrestling EV3 robots. Robust programming design will be emphasized, including the use of loops, switch statements and data wiring. Students will explore the major body systems, focusing on the skeletal system. Students will learn at least 20 major bones and their locations in the human body, perform experiments to help them learn about the functions of other organs. Students will act as doctors and create splints for their teddy bears, have a 1:1 experience with program Nurse & record their blood pressure, pulse, height, & also learn numerous medical safety precautions.
