You will be out in the field during this course, developing your skills in nature observation and animal tracking in the context of modern ecology. You will become familiar with the details of the lives of local wildlife including coyotes, deer, foxes, raccoons, opossums, weasels, mice, and bobcats. Topics and skills covered include local natural history, wildlife habitat assessment, clear print track identification, wildlife conservation, and the role of humans in today's ecosystems.

The Ithaca Writers Institute is a place where promising high school student writers come together to celebrate, study, and practice the creation of literature, laying the foundation for a successful life of writing. Taught by a distinguished faculty member of the College’s Department of Writing, with teaching assistance from the department’s most talented undergraduates, the curriculum mirrors the department’s own unique curriculum, giving aspiring young writers an immersive experience in an authentic college atmosphere.

The Duke Pre-College Program provides advanced academic opportunities and an introduction to the college experience to students currently in grades 6-11. Our courses are created to give students access to cutting-edge curriculum and technology beyond the average classroom while connecting them with transcendent peers from around the world and influential professionals in their future field. In addition to accessing university facilities and labs, our students interact and learn from renowned faculty and researchers. Participants gain valuable experiences that prepare them not only for their college curriculum and careers to follow, but also their futures as empowered, influential leaders.

Current 8th-11th grade students can apply (including rising 9th grade students and 18-year-old students.) Different courses will be available 9:00-10:30 a.m. EST and 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. EST every weekday. Students will only attend 1.5 hours of synchronous sessions and have asynchronous sessions on their own and within groups as outlined by the instructor.

What better way to spend a week this summer in a fun, exciting class learning how to cook delicious meals? In our state-of-the-art kitchen, young chefs will enjoy lots of culinary action and tasty delights of Indigenous and Spanish cuisine. This camp will help you learn about measuring ingredients, how to follow a recipe, gardening and harvesting, and how to make healthy choices in food preparation. Every recipe is a creation and every creation an adventure! Chef Margaret Grant will guide you through this culinary experience. Any allergies or dietary restrictions will be taken into account for every recipe used, ensuring that the experience is healthy and fun for all!

This class is incredible for the hands-on tinkerers and engineers of tomorrow who love to figure out how things work and build exciting robotics projects. If your kid ever loved Legos, they will love this class! We also focus on the code - as campers code their Creator Bot Robots through fun challenges and as they wire and code their Arduinos to control motors, lights, sensors and more! Campers also lead their bots through fun challenges.
