FIRST® Tech Challenge students learn to think like engineers. Teams build robots from a reusable kit of parts, develop strategies, document their progress, and compete. Students will gain experience designing, programming, and applying math and science concepts. This workshop is a great foundation for students interested in building their robotics skills for academic year competitions.

This course is intended for non-majors seeking an introduction to computer science and Python programming. The course covers the following topics: basic data types in Python, variables and constants, input and output, Python reserved words and built-in functions, operators, conditional control structures, repetition control structures, basic file operations, user-defined functions, value parameters, lists, scope rules, importing packages, elementary data processing and visualization, and elementary software engineering principles. This course may be used to fulfill the math/computer science portion of the Gen Ed Math/Science requirement.

This is the first part of the three-semester calculus sequence (MATH-1350, 1360, and 2370) for mathematics and science majors. Students do not need to have any familiarity with calculus, but do need good algebra/precalculus preparation. Topics include limits, derivatives, techniques of differentiation, applications of the derivative, the Riemann integral, the trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions, and the logarithmic and exponential functions. Fall and Spring. All students must score a 75 or above on the Calculus Readiness Assessment to enroll in MATH 1350.

You’ll work in Rose-Hulman’s innovation centers under the guidance of our faculty and students. By the end of the week, there won’t be a tool or machine you haven’t conquered. This camp will empower you to build any widget or gadget you can imagine.

Project SELECT is a week-long science and engineering camp that's exclusively for students during the summers after their freshman or sophomore years of high school.

Take your engineering skills to a new level using LEGO Mindstorms Robotics using NXT and EV3 kits.  Discover the challenges that make robotics technology accessible using problem- solving techniques.  Create your robot using basic computer programming, principles of simple and complex machines, gearing and your own creativity.  Teams will attempt to exploit the design weaknesses or incidental mechanical advantage of their opponents' robots.  A perfect blend of math, science and fun!

Love to be in the kitchen? Growing gourmets will have the opportunity to cook and have fun! Immerse yourself with cooking techniques, tools of the trade, basic etiquette, nutrition, safety, a little kitchen math, and learn how to read a recipe. Students will be making gourmet sandwiches, homemade pizzas, cupcakes, pasta and more. Each day will be a different theme. Students will be cooking breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and dessert foods. Includes CD of recipes, aprons provided.  

Step up and become a culinary master! Immerse yourself with advanced cooking techniques, tools of the trade, basic etiquette, nutrition, safety and even some kitchen math. Growing gourmets will be making delectable delights from breakfast to dinner. A CD of all recipes and cooking information will be given to all masterchefs. Aprons provided. Bring a water bottle each day and wear closed toed shoes. Prerequisite: Must have taken Kids in the Kitchen or have prior kitchen experience.

The Engineering Summer Program (ESP) is a free, three-week residential program for rising high school juniors and seniors who are interested in engineering. Participants will experience living on UW-Madison’s campus while getting a sense of what it means to be a Badger Engineer. Beyond the ESP core curriculum of math, physics, chemistry and engineering design, students will participate in hands-on workshops, visit industry sites, go on field trips, and receive mentoring from faculty. Each ESP participant will build life-long connections while furthering their passion for engineering.
