The ATSU-Truman Healthcare Academy is a summer healthcare academy aimed at high school students who will have completed grades 9-11 at the end of the school year.

In this course, students take a comprehensive look at multiple factors that influence our bodies over a lifetime to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle. Students gain physical literacy by identifying, applying, analyzing, and evaluating components of fitness, exercise (FITT) principles, principles of training, phases of movement, and athletic performance.

This course is designed to introduce you to the benefits of exercise, engage in fitness testing, develop methods of exercise prescription using the FITT principle, all while taking a look at personal health and wellness.

Campers will learn about veterinary medicine first-hand in classrooms, laboratories, and outdoor facilities that include Auburn’s raptor, equine, dairy, beef, and swine units. Campers will learn about public health, food animals, wildlife, anatomy, imaging, and first aid, as well as gain valuable mentoring about veterinary science careers.

Campers will examine and explore the multi-faceted world of healthcare careers alongside current health professions students and faculty in a four-day residential experience on the campus of Auburn University (AU).

Collegiate-level students can participate in the Scholars Program so long as admission to a health professional program has not yet been achieved, starting from the summer prior to their freshman year of college through post-baccalaureate status. Collegiate students specifically focusing on admissions test preparation can learn more about our DAT Prep Scholars and MCAT Prep Scholars. From June through the following April, Collegiate Scholars will increase their confidence and preparedness for pursing their educational goals.

This course is a prerequisite to Medical Problem Solving II at GOA. In this course, students collaboratively solve medical mystery cases, similar to the approach used in many medical schools. Students enhance their critical-thinking skills as they examine data, draw conclusions, diagnose, and identify appropriate treatment for patients.
