Within the world of Minecraft campers will enjoy daily challenges and activities. Design missions and adventure maps to share with others and participate in a variety of games such as Virtual Capture the Flag.  Develop teamwork and communication skills as you build, destroy and fight monsters. This course is designed for novices and the very experienced alike.

Integrated mathematics requires a strong foundation in the algebra and geometry concepts introduced in 8th grade. This course will provide a review of important math topics to help students build the necessary understanding to find success in Applied Integrated Mathematics 1 or Integrated Mathematics 1. Using an individualized approach, students will improve their algebra skills while exploring meaningful problems that require knowledge of many math concepts. The course will also help build problem-solving techniques in preparation for the type of work required in the 9th-grade courses.

Using an individualized approach, students will improve their algebra skills while exploring meaningful problems that require knowledge of crucial math concepts – including, but not limited to, properties of quadratic functions, function notation, function transformations, etc. The course will review several geometry concepts needed for Integrated Math 2 or Applied Math 2 as well as geometry topics that are on the ACT. The course will focus on building problem-solving techniques in preparation for the type of work required in the 10th-grade courses.

The goal of the AP Computer Science A Bootcamp is to help students prepare and gain exposure to topics covered in AP Computer Science A. Students taking AP Computer Science A at MICDS expressed that a foundational course would have been beneficial. This course is designed for students who have minimal experience in coding and will be focused on introducing students to Computational Solution Design, Algorithms and Program Development, Abstraction in Program Development, and Code Analysis.

This summer math course is designed to help build a strong foundational understanding of several middle school math topics. It will allow students the opportunity to review skills from previous courses and look ahead to concepts learned throughout their middle school math experience. Throughout the course, students engage in activities and problem-solving exercises that will encourage them to build confidence in their mathematical abilities! Please note that participation in the course does not lead to acceleration in the math program.

Campers will be divided by age and skill over the course of the week. Fundamentals will be stressed daily with an emphasis on dribbling, passing, and shooting. All campers will participate in daily contests and games culminating in Finals Friday.

 Champ Camp was founded in 1975 by National Field Hockey Coaches Association Hall of Fame Coach Debby Watson and has been providing excellent training and lasting memories ever since as it moved to the MICDS campus under the direction of Lynn Mittler. The camp is structured on the principles of instruction and play, offering players a great opportunity to be coached by top high school coaches and current college players. A mix of technical training and scrimmaging allows players to learn and try out their new skills. Utilizing the field dedicated for the exclusive use of women’s field hockey, campers train on our water turf field to facilitate the speed of skill execution on an optimal surface.

Pickleball is a fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. This camp will focus on instructional drills, fun games, and interactive activities. The camp is designed for participants to learn the fundamentals of Pickleball including the rules of the game, the different parts of the court, serving, scoring, and the basic forehand shot.  

Coaches Cameron Thomas, Patrick Huewe, and Carl Walker have combined coaching experience of more than 60 years and are USPTA or USPTR Certified. Coach Huewe is a former college Division 1 tennis player and has led MICDS tennis teams to several State Championships. Coach Thomas is also a former college tennis player and a Division 1 college coach, and he has coached State Champions, National and Professional Players, and he is on the coaching staff at MICDS. Coach Walker is a graduate of the tennis teaching program at Tyler Texas, and he has coached college tennis, high school tennis, State Champions, and National and Professional Players.

This course provides students with a general introduction to the field of abnormal psychology from a western perspective while exploring the cultural assumptions within the field. Students examine the biopsychosocial aspects of what society considers abnormal while developing an understanding of the stigma often associated with psychological disorders.

This program helps English language learners in grades 9-12 improve their academic English. The program adapts to meet students’ needs and goals but is intended for students nearing English proficiency. Students bring work from their courses to language coaching sessions with the instructor. There, they improve their written and oral communication. They submit drafts of writing assignments and record rehearsals of presentations. They also set goals and receive feedback and coaching on their English expression.
