Join New City’s two science teachers, Tom Rankin and Eric Eskelsen, for a week in the Tom Hoerr Innovation Lab and Kitchen. Campers will get a chance to explore with our tools, laser cutters, and 3D printers as they learn about electricity, coding, and the design process. We will also spend time in the kitchen learning some of the science behind cooking. Makers will also get a chance to create their own solar oven. SUPER COOL!

Can your bridge withstand the shake rattle and roll challenge? Explore the world of birds and beasts. Discover what Hooty the owl had for dinner? Kids will dissect owl pellets and reconstruct Hooty’s dinner. Enter the Mad Science chemistry lab and mix, mash, and brew concoctions! Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, simple machines, and megapinchers! Campers will discover the wonders of light and photography. It’s a week packed with non-stop science fun!

Harnessing the power of arcade tool kits, students will delve into foundational learning while grasping the intricate connections between components. These kits, featuring LED lights, a numerical monitor, LED Display fan, music notes, and more, o“er a secure and stimulating environment for hands-on exploration. Through the assembly of these elements, students are encouraged to unleash their creativity and build personalized arcade machines. This experiential approach merges theoretical with a practical application, providing a dynamic learning opportunity that nurtures innovative engineering skills.

AHOY there! Back by popular demand, it’s a Pirate Adventure. Come aboard and join the crew— no deck swabbing required! We are getting ready to sail the high seas for pirate treasures and search for a pirate ship right here on the New City campus. Learn to read treasure maps and about famous pirates. Learn to talk like a Pirate too…AARRR! Come aboard, there is much fun to be had this session!

Join former New City Artist-in-Residence (and frequent Visual Art substitute teacher!) Michael Holohan and NCS alum Lillian Stephen for this week-long sewing and fundamental ceramics camp. Campers will make ART you can USE, like bags, pillows, mugs, and usable pots. And that’s just the beginning!

What an imaginative way to end the summer! Campers will get the chance to plan the activities for the last week of camp. Campers will be given a budget to design their own week of fun. Who knows what they will come up with; maybe the movies, more waterparks, go carts, a sundae buffet or lunch around town. No matter where they go, it's sure to be an adventure!

Who can build the strongest bridge? Can your bridge withstand the shake rattle and roll challenge? Explore the world of birds and beasts with bird feeder building and our super bug investigation. Speaking of birds, what did Hooty the owl have for dinner? A mouse? A Squirrel? A Frog? Kids will dissect owl pellets and reconstruct Hooty’s dinner. Enter the Mad Science chemistry lab and mix, mash, and brew concoctions to create cool sidewalk chalk and bath fizzers! Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, simple machines, and megapinchers! Campers will discover the wonders of photography and make their own chromatography-dyed T-shirt. It’s a week packed with non-stop science fun!

Campers with a strong interest and ability in performing arts should sign up to be a cast or crew member in this children’s theater production involving full-scale costumes, makeup, set, props, lighting, sound, and more. Communication regarding scripts and auditions will be delivered to cast members prior to the start of camp. While all who sign up will be assured a part in the production, auditions for larger roles will be held at the beginning of camp. All campers will receive professional training in acting, vocal performance, dance and technical theater. Older campers (4th-7th) who are interested in working solely behind the scenes are welcome. New City School Performing Arts teacher Ben Griffiths and his team return to direct this three-week camp. This camp will end with a daytime show for other New City School campers, and two evening shows for family and friends.

Come and spend some time outdoors with New City teachers, Tommi and Marti Jo. We will spend most of our day outside exploring the grounds at New City School. We will play games, go on scavenger hunts, and learn about birds, plants, insects, and trees. There will be time for art exploration, music and movement, stories, as well as learning to be good friends and stewards of the earth. Let the wonder, curiosity, and creativity surrounding Nature begin! Campers can attend one or both weeks of this exciting Specialty Camp.

In this fun STEAM course, students develop 2-D multi-level classic games as they learn and apply coding fundamentals to their game projects. Additionally, students learn game design concepts as they create, design, and code their own versions of Pac-Man, Galaxy Cat, Tic Tac, Toe, and creative side-scrolling video games!
