Designed for junior high and high school students who want to learn more about how to incorporate cutting-edge fields including virtual reality, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, and podcasting to gamify their stories and bring education to life.

The camp will also include a day of hiking. Possible side quests include trips to other local archaeological sites and the Center for Archaeological Investigations Curation Center. Learn about Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Geographic Information System (GIS), and how to conduct an archaeological dig that uses the latest in technology in addition to traditional excavation and mapping techniques.

The Aviation Flight program at SIU Carbondale offers this week-long aviation camp designed to give interested high school students an opportunity to experience first-hand the thrill of flight. Summer Wings offers those attending the chance to explore a career as a pilot by providing ground and flight training similar to the training that SIU flight students undergo.

Get creative with clay! Discover wheel throwing and hand-building techniques to create a unique themed set. Students will learn how to make plates, bowls, cups, clay food, and other items for the table. Each day will focus on different items to add to the decorative and functional table setting. The class will learn to add color with underglaze and glaze. Finished works will be available for pick up approximately 2 – 3 weeks after camp after the final glaze firing.

Explore the age of technique of papermaking, printmaking, and bookbinding. This week camp will learn to make our own paper using molds and deckles from paper pulp to plant fiber. We will use our handmade paper for drawing on, collage and to print. to create a colorful creative artist book.

The Saluki Opportunities Awareness Residency (SOAR) program at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale is an innovative career development program designed specifically for minority students who are entering their junior and senior years in high school. Its primary objective is to increase the number of high school students from under-represented ethnic groups to attend college and major in accounting.

Campers will have fun in the kitchen, make crafts, play games, learn songs, go swimming and take a field trip or have the field trip come to us! Before and after-care will be available, too. Field trip costs are included in the fees! Our qualified counselors will coordinate activities and supervise campers. Campers must bring sack lunches, a snack and drinks daily; no refrigeration is available for food.
