This two-week-long, beginner-friendly workshop introduces high school students to the art of bookmaking. Beginning with the creation of simple zine-style booklets, students will explore the history and cultural impact of zines, especially their role in activism and information-sharing. Once they’ve learned the basics, students will move into more advanced book-making methods, including a range of stitching techniques and how to choose the right one for their project. Participants will also experiment with sustainable making practices such as repurposing discarded paper into handmade sheets and using fabric scraps to create unique cover wraps. By the end of the course, each student will leave with one to two handcrafted blank books of their own design.
