During the week, you will have an opportunity to explore Maryland Engineering!  You will participate in a variety of activities including laboratory work and demonstrations, lectures, discussions, computer instruction, and a team design project. You will visit each of the eight engineering departments to learn more about the specific degree programs, majors, and minors. Within the network of support provided by the instructors, program advisors, and peers, you will have the opportunity to build self-confidence in applying your math, science, and engineering skills.

Personal story-telling is an important way that we can use our voices for social change. During this week, campers will view examples of young people telling their stories to speak truth to power, learn what makes for an effective story, and write, share, and practice telling a story from their own life.

Reading So Lit Summer is a virtual 2-week reading identity exploration program that helps Black and Brown boys (ages 6-8) explore, discover, and express their reading preferences. This innovative program uses relatable youth instructors, interactive virtual lessons, and hands-on reading activities to increase boys’ vocabularies and to inspire them to read for fun.

The Office of Precollegiate Student Services will host a summer writing workshop to cover the outline, writing, and editing process for three Common Application essay prompts. Students will learn to tell their unique stories and use their own voice as they prepare application essays.

Join us for a week of guided drawing, crafts, and painting. We will spend time each day learning how to draw and paint something new! Then we will have time to make a craft that you can take home with you at the end of the week. We will always make time for some free crafting time at the end of each day! We can’t wait to see what you artists come up with and how much you grow throughout the week.

Learn and play various backyard games—some classic and some new! Croquet, washers, KanJam, kickball, wiffleball, cornhole, and more will be instructed and played throughout the week. Students will get to try various pairings and individual games, culminating in a tournament at the end of the week. The goal will be playing new games and making new friends in the beautiful, huge backyard of Community School.

Camp Pokémon welcomes all players entering 2nd-6th grades, regardless of their skill level or familiarity with Pokémon. All cards and materials will be provided.

Unleash your love for dogs at the Dog Days of Summer camp! Campers are invited to join us for a paws-itively fun adventure filled with learning, crafting, and plenty of tail-wagging excitement. Campers will learn about dog care, training, and behavior, all while spending quality time with our beloved school pet, Skipper! Craft enthusiasts can look forward to making bandanas and other dog-themed crafts.

Come spend time working and playing in the woods of Community School. Campers will learn to use basic tools outdoors to make games, toys, and crafts using the green wood of the forest. They will also learn about the trees, plants, and animals that fill our incredible natural world!

It’s like wiffleball... only with more Gruszka “curve.” Learn how to play various types of wiffleball, as well as the skills needed to play positions in the game. Hands-on coaching and skill work will be completed each day, along with at least one daily game. Students of all skill levels are welcome to join in for an at-bat, and no one ever strikes out when having fun with friends in this classic backyard game.
