Explore the art of the self-portrait through a variety of fine arts, including drawing, painting, and photography. We even take some fun phone selfies in a variety of backgrounds to look at composition, technique, and the impact social media has had on the concept of "self-portraits." Students work on observation skills and arts technique all while discussing and creating fun art pieces that represent and celebrate their identity. Selfie Reimagined concludes with campers bringing home the work they created. Art and technology supplies and equipment use included in price.

We pretend we are sleuths solving a COCA mystery. Then, we turn the tables as we craft and stage our own secret agent story. We build spy gadgets and develop clever stories of espionage and "train" for our adventures in a yarn created "laser" maze. Spies & Secret Agents concludes with an in-person performance for family and friends during the final 20 minutes of camp. Campers learn to use real people or stop motion armatures to create magical illusions using the craft of stop motion animation. Animations include stop motion dances with impossible leaps, magic tricks that defy probability, comedic silent shorts, and “hovering“ animations. Come on a trip around the world! We "travel" to a variety of countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America—where we create artwork, drama, and dance inspired by the cultures we visit. No need to bring a passport—we create our own! Summer in a Suitcase concludes with campers bringing home the work they created. Calligraphy is the art of decorative handwriting. For thousands of years, people have created calligraphy using a brush and ink or special ink pens. Young illustrators explore the vastly different illustration styles in popular children’s books by Maurice Sendak, Eric Carle, and Lane Smith, using them as a jumping off point to create illustrations of their own! Campers create art in pencil, watercolor, tempera, collage, and chalk—all inspired by their favorite stories. We learn about the role of the illustrator as we create artwork that tells a story. Young Illustrator concludes with campers bringing home the work they created.

Campers work on the technical acting and makeup special effects involved in performing zombie characters. From vocal grunts, words, and sounds to movement strategy, they refine the skills needed to portray a character in a favorite zombie movie or television program. They also learn to apply special effects makeup to enhance their performance. Zombie Acting Techniques concludes with parents receiving a digital link to their camper's transformations sent the week following camp.

Addams Family Fun concludes with an in-person performance for family and friends during the final 20 minutes of camp. Campers deepen their drawing, painting, and sculpture skills as we develop images and ideas in each art form. We learn key formal skills, such as composition, scale, value, color mixing, and color theory as we work with a multitude of media, such as watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, pastel, plaster, and wire. We also learn how various artistic mediums relate to one another and the importance of a well-rounded studio practice. Artist Toolbox concludes with campers bringing home the work they created.

Students explore and create the macabre intersection of elaborate masks, costume accessories, and makeup as they explore ghoulish Victorian vampire style. Students create full face masks inspired by historic carnivals and learn fantasy make-up techniques featured in unearthly films and television shows. Bizzaro Victorian Masquerade concludes with campers bringing home the work they created.

Let's build! Children enjoy building and demolishing in this construction camp. We read and respond to books like A Year at a Construction Site and Building a House, sing "Johnny Pounds with One Hammer," and explore arts activities such as paper bag houses and sandpaper rubbings. Along the way, we practice measuring and learn about the shapes in buildings all around us! Build It concludes with campers bringing home the work they created. Working in COCA's outdoor spaces, we create chalk drawings using pastels and traditional chalks, explore chalk rubbings, and even make chalk. Campers collaboratively create our own outdoor masterpieces to inspire fellow campers and their families coming to and from our building. Chalk Art concludes with campers bringing home the work they created. This camp primarily takes place in an outdoor studio in COCA’s courtyard but will move indoors as weather requires.

Are you ready to take your cooking skills to the next level? Campers are split into teams to make and design their own masterpieces in a cooking competition. Learn to work under the pressure of a camera crew and judges. Information about food restrictions or allergies must be provided to COCA during the registration process or by contacting the Registration Office by email at least two weeks prior to camp. Campers must adhere to kitchen safety rules. Campers should have their hair pulled back. All culinary supplies and groceries included in price.
