We begin by writing a descriptive tale, then use the process of a book illustrator to decide which elements to communicate through our artwork. We explore and practice many styles of illustration, from pencil drawings to collage. Then, campers decide which to use in creating a fully illustrated mini-book of their own. Illustration concludes with campers bringing home the work they created.

Calling all paleontologists! Join us for Brontosaurus building and Stegosaurus sculptures. We create our own fossils and dino art as well as imagine stories about our favorite dinosaurs. Come and explore the Jurassic period and create some pre-historic fun. Jurassic Art concludes with campers bringing home the work they created.

If your child loves LEGO, this camp is their chance to bring LEGO creations to life! We work in groups to develop simple storyboards, stage the building blocks, and learn how to use stop motion animation techniques as we shoot footage to develop into a short film. Express yourself! Students transform plain white T-shirts into a wide array of fashionable items—kimonos, dresses, and bags that reflect a sense of personal style. They dye, cut and tie, and add design elements, including some hand sewing, fabric markers, fabric paint, beads, gems, and other decorative techniques. Young writers and illustrators learn the art of creating picture books. Campers brainstorm characters and their own special illustration style to create their own stories. Picture Books 101 concludes with campers bringing home the work they created.

This fun and lively introduction to dance is perfect for those interested in sampling moves and choreography. Inspired by current and classic pop music stars and their styles, we learn a different style of choreography and dance step each day and create props and accessories to augment our performance. If you "love rock 'n' roll," work with teaching artists in this camp on a variety of group songs and solo features from artists like Journey, The Beatles, and Queen. In the spirit of books, films, and stories, such as Star Wars and Guardians of the Galaxy, create a movie narrative about a wildly imagined futuristic, high-tech world. Working in small groups, you write the script, scout locations in and around COCA, direct, perform, shoot, and edit your movie. Sci-Fi Movie Making concludes with families receiving a digital link of their camper's work sent the week following camp.

Working individually and in small groups, we imagine, design, and build our own amazing structures. We explore clay, paper maché, and wire as sculptural medium as we practice both additive and subtractive techniques. Adding rocks, leaves, sticks, and other natural materials, we imagine our sculptures as part of the outdoor setting. From functional to purely fantastical, we discover the many different ways to see in the third dimension. Sculpture Garden concludes with campers bringing home the work they created.

COCA vocal music teachers help each camper gain confidence as they explore singing fun songs from different styles of music, such as pop, musical theatre, folk, or rock.
