The 21st Century Community Learning Centers Camp, coordinated by Auburn University's Truman Pierce Institute faculty and staff, through funding by the Alabama State Department of Education, is for Alabama's high school students who serve as 21st Century Community Learning Center tutors. The camp focuses on providing students with information and skills that will allow them to work successfully in 21st CCLC programs.

This course will study topics in American history through the lens of sport covering topics such as: European and Colonial origins of American sporting culture, Urbanization & the growth of organized games, Protest & Resistance on and off the field, Olympic Games & Cold War Politics, Sport & American Identity, and much, much more!

How do film composers influence the audience’s emotional response, and in what ways do they create music that elicits a particular location or time period? How do they balance the music with dialogue? This course will investigate the development of movie music from the early improvised organ playing of musicians like Fats Waller for silent films, to more recent music from the biggest composers in Hollywood, including Erich Korngold, Max Steiner, Henry Mancini, Bernard Herrmann, John Williams, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, James Horner, Alan Silvestri, Randy Newman, and Howard Shore.

Through a variety of collaborative outdoor activities, students will build leadership skills and increase levels of personal and social confidence through group problem solving and teambuilders. This class will include a balance of classroom preparation and physical activity in outdoor settings with an emphasis on positive, inclusive practices. Learning experiences may include hiking, canoeing, outdoor cooking, fishing, outdoor games, archery, and geocaching.

Throughout the first week of this course, we will explore fanfiction through a rhetorical lens by analyzing audience (fandoms) and the various ways language is used to appeal to those audiences. The second week will focus on many of the literary theories that underpin much fanfiction writing, including postmodernism, poststructuralism, deconstruction, and various critical theories. Finally in the third week we will put our knowledge of various fandoms and literary theories into practice by producing some of our own fanfictions!

In this studio art course, we will study historical examples of mythological hybrids, ranging from Egyptian gods to Greek monsters to the common North American Jackalope. Students will then take inspiration from a culture of their choice to make one of these creatures or invent a new one of their own! We will discuss these creatures’ place in their respective stories and try to understand the purpose of their hybrid nature.

From a summer-only program to now a year-round support, the STAHR Scholars Program provides students with the opportunities, resources, and knowledge to become competitive applicants to health professional programs. Students in the Scholars Program will undergo personal and professional development as they explore and strengthen their interest in health careers.

Saint Louis University's DCHS Summer Healthcare Exploration Camp is designed to give underrepresented high school rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in a future in health care an opportunity to gain first-hand experience in the academic programs offered at the college. Participants will learn about all DCHS academic programs, which prepare students to become: athletic trainers, health information specialists, medical imaging specialists, medical laboratory scientists, occupational therapists, physical therapists, physician assistants, radiation therapists, registered dietitians, speech-language pathologists and many other health care professions. In addition to educational activities across various health sciences disciplines, students will receive SLU gear and be entered to win a free iPad. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2023.

This course is designed to introduce students to the benefits of exercise, taking a look at health and wellness benefits of cardio fitness, dance, and movement. Encompassing all of that, we will also have time to focus on nutritional aspect of healthy eating topics such as MyPlate representation, food labels, the FITT principle and why hydration is important for health.

The Psychology of Music is an introduction to how we understand and perceive music, and how and why we respond to it. Students do not need a background in reading music for this class. We’ll start with building a base of knowledge of musical acoustics and the anatomy/physiology of the ear and the brain.

The course will introduce you to the scientific process by exploring fundamental concepts in chemistry in the context of contemporary environmental and societal issues. A broad range of topics will be explored throughout the session, including the atom and atomic structure, molecules and chemical bonding, chemical nomenclature, writing and balancing chemical equations, the mole and molarity, and the relationship between chemical structure and function. You will participate in several laboratory experiences in which you will learn to work safely in the laboratory and make careful observations of chemical reactions and phenomena in order to draw useful conclusions from your experiments. You will also have the opportunity to explore and share new topics through brief class presentations.
