The Young Wizards Magic Academy is a two week summer course for aspiring magicians ages 8 to 17 who want to immerse themselves in the exciting world of the magical arts. They will leave class each day endeavoring to practice, perfect and perform magic! The academy is designed for eager learners who want to build a strong beginner’s repertoire of tricks and begin performing right away. The curriculum emphasizes creative thinking, problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Even if the participants don’t pursue a future career in the magical arts, they will develop lifelong skills that will give them an edge in any setting or industry.

Calling all rising 5th-8th grade actors! Be a part of the magic of theater! Led by Whitfield drama teacher Mary Schnitzler, campers will explore the world of creative theater and learn the magic of telling stories on stage. Students will engage in dramatic games to spark creativity and develop collaboration as well as work on scripts to refine performing arts skills such as brainstorming, rehearsing, and developing interesting characters. This class is open to students regardless of experience level. The camp will culminate in a showcase of scenes.

Explore the adventures of Elphaba, Glinda, the Wizard and Fiyero through creative and interactive theater games, all presented in our Final Showcase Performance. Join with friends to create your own characters and stories of Wicked through collaborative writing and monologue development. Daily craft activities are inspired by and incorporated into our Performances.

Levitate a person! Cause a dollar to fold 3 times by itself! Float a spoon right off the table! These are just a few of the tricks you will learn. You’ll get your own magic box out of which you can perform new tricks to show your family each day. Plus, you’ll also learn comedy skits, balloon art, magic puzzles, and lots more! Camp culminates with the campers putting on a family show. The goals are to develop presentation skills, build confidence, and have fun! Tricks are new from our previous 3 years.

Mind read someone’s birthday! Produce the 14 of Diamonds! Multiply coins! Learn these and many other magic tricks while honing your math skills. The tricks for this camp are math-based! You’ll learn magic with money, cards, paper, and special magic props you’ll take home. The students put on a show for their families on the last day. Animal balloons, clown skits, and team-building activities round out this fun half-day camp. The goals are to develop presentation skills and confidence, build math skills, and have fun!

Disney’s Newsies JR. is a 60-minute version of the 2012 Broadway musical, based on the 1992 film. Inspired by the rousing true story of newsboys in turn-of-the-century New York City, Newsies JR. features a Tony Award-winning score by Alan Menken and Jack Feldman and a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. When powerful newspaper publishers raise prices at the newsboys’ expense, the charismatic Jack Kelly rallies newsies from across the city to strike against the unfair conditions. Together, the newsies learn that they are stronger united and create a movement to fight for what’s right. Including the now-classic songs “Carrying the Banner,” “Seize the Day,” and “Santa Fe,” Newsies JR. is a timeless story full of spirit and heart. This week-long camp concludes with a fully staged public performance for family and friends on Friday, August 7 at 5pm & 7:30pm. THIS CAMP WILL BE ONE CAST FROM THOSE ENROLLED AGES 9-19

They work on strategies to approach acting text, movement, physicality, and voice/speech. Through their work, they learn different methods for creating characters that captivate audiences and draw them into the world of the play. Actor's Toolbox concludes with a performance for family and friends during the final 20 minutes of camp.
