Musical Theatre Camp at Auburn University is an innovative, intensive week-long residential workshop designed for music, theatre, dance, and show choir students who are interested in developing their skills on stage. Students will participate in workshops, masterclasses, private lessons, and rehearsals with our skilled Department of Theatre faculty and staff. Camp kicks off with mock auditions and a fun filled night of games! The week culminates in a Friday morning performance that will highlight scenes rehearsed during the week for family and friends!

This class is a great supplement to our other performing arts classes. Students will learn the "nuts and bolts" of Musical Theatre and performing.

For more than 60 years, Illinois Summer Youth Music (ISYM) has helped young musicians improve their artistry, strengthen their self-confidence, and embark on professional careers. Junior and senior high school students perform with large band, orchestra, chorus, and jazz ensembles or attend intensive, specialized instrumental programs. Students return home with newly developed skills, a lifelong sense of discipline, and in-depth training. Musical Theatre is comprised of workshops designed to prepare interested singers and actors for the musical stage.

Students discover a charming story based on Arnold Lobel's well-loved books in First Musical: A Year with Frog and Toad KIDS. This camp is a wonderful introductory stage experience for aspiring musical theatre performers. Students participate by enrollment and are cast on the first day of camp. They experience working on a short, scripted musical in an accelerated format. The treasured characters from the children's books and the beautiful Broadway musical hop from page to stage in this story of friendship and adventure. The show is performed for family and friends at 7:00PM on July 18 in the UHSP theatre.

Get moving with jazz and musical theatre dance movements inspired by Bob Fosse's work. Work on dance vocabulary, musical rhythms, timing, and prop usage as you learn a piece of choreography. Then, build on skills for auditioning, including the ability to learn quickly and perform choreography from musical theatre dance. No previous dance training required. Camp includes two tickets to COCA's production of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. Dancers wear jazz shoes, sneakers, or bare feet.

Celebrate powerful female characters and their stories through the world of musical theatre! Campers will explore scenes and songs from empowering musicals such as Six, Matilda, Legally Blonde, and & Juliet. Through acting, singing, and choreography, they will develop confidence, teamwork, and creativity. The camp will culminate in a final performance for friends and family showcasing what they've learned.

The week includes attending a professional theatre production of Matilda the Musical at LaComedia Dinner Theatre in Springboro, OH and culminates in a performance for your family and friends on the final day of camp.
