THIS IS AN ONLINE CLASS - Your instructor will email instructions prior to class. JUNE: This 3-week class will focus on Developing Early Writing Skills through Story Comprehension and Phonological Awareness. The retelling of stories allows students to learn to organize and describe events, which enhances reading comprehension. JULY: This 3-week class will focus on exploring Math Concepts. Students will enhance their understanding of the concept of numbers focusing on developing strategic mathematical thinking through problem solving, math games and patterns. Patterns help children make predictions and learn to make logical connections and use reasoning skills.

This camp will explore the United Nations, a body founded after the Second World War to “save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.” Using a variety of active learning techniques, students will learn about some of the world’s most pressing challenges. Each student will represent a state in the United Nations General Assembly, conduct research from that state’s perspective on a specific issue, and draft a General Assembly resolution. On the last day of the camp, students will debate and vote on the draft resolutions in a simulation.

All ages will experience sports, French, art, and recess, as well as differentiated academics—all taught by experienced Community School faculty and staff. Camp runs from 9:00 - 3:00 daily. One week of camp costs $355 or sign up for both at $650. Get ready. Get set. It’s time for school! Younger students will get familiar with school routines before the first day of school. By using favorite children’s books, thematic activities will support school readiness skills such as listening, following directions, and organization, as well as math, reading, and writing.

The students will culminate their camp experience with a service learning project. Through critical thinking activities, leadership skills will be enhanced to prepare fifth and sixth graders for the school year.
