Artscope's Summer Camp Create features expert visual art instruction by Artscope's experienced teaching artists, special guests artists, lots of screen-free outdoor play, and supervised exploration of magical Tower Grove Park. We emphasize reducing our footprint by using natural, recycled and upcycled materials for our art. Each week a different theme.

The tactile possibilities are endless! From scaly bubble wrap to fluffy felt; learn to add another sensory layer to your work of art! Get ready for a soft, squishy, scratchy, and bouncy week while we traverse touch and texture through the use of found and recycled materials.

A Space Odyssey

One thing we know about space is that we don't know much about it (fun fact: we only understand about 5%- the other 95% is a mystery!) We’ll use light, mixed media, collage, and found objects to explore the mystery of space, and beyond…

Under The Sea

June 24th - June 28th
Did you know that 70% of Earth's surface is covered in water, but more than 80% of our oceans are unmapped? Do you ever wonder what goes on under the sea? We’ll explore character development, color theory, and various water-based media in this wet and wild camp!

Tangled Jungle

July 8th - July 12th
Come hang out with us (get it?!!) in the lush green jungle of Tower Grove Park... Paper manipulation, line-work, age appropriate cutting techniques, and more we will find ways to bring the jungle's plant and animal kingdoms to South St. Louis!

Mythical Creatures

July 15th - July 19th
Beyond our realm lies the eternally unknown... We will create mythos and explore our newly-minted creatures through artistic expression, including mask making, collage, and on site exploration of the natural landscapes of Tower Grove Park.

Bugging Out

July 22nd - July 26th
Calling all crawlers, jumpers, web-weavers and beyond! Do you love the way a beetle’s skin shines? How do spiders build a web? How many cicadas can you find? Art created in this camp will be based on all things buggy!

Nature Works

July 29th - August 2nd
Does anything go together better than art and nature? We will use the beauty of Tower Grove Park and the work of naturalist artists like Andy Goldsworthy, Aldo Leopold, and Bob Ross to create nature centric artwork and installations throughout the park.

Sound & Vision

How do you draw a sound? We will use sound to inspire our creative visions; transporting us to our wildest daydreams! Sounds of Tower Grove Park, Arsenal Street, birds, bands, neighbors walking by all serve as inspiration as we explore the connection between the world around us and the art we make.

Art In Motion

August 12th - August 16th
​
Create art that is inspired by motion! We will use sculpture, movement, nontraditional painting styles, and more as inspiration for some funky abstract creations. This camp is for the movers and shakers!

Cancelation Policy
For Summer 2023, a registration canceled up to the Friday two weeks prior to the week of enrollment is eligible for a refund, less an administrative fee of $25 per week of enrollment canceled. Cancellations requested after that point are not entitled to a refund

Q: What sets Camp Create apart?

Q: What age range does Camp Create cater to?
A: Camp Create is designed for students ages 5 - 10 years old. This age range ensures that students are comfortable with a full day of instruction in a classroom environment. If a parent is confident that their child can handle the full day and follow our expectations, they are welcome to join. However, if a child isn't able to abide by the expectations, they'll need to be picked up from camp.
Q: How do I find the Camp Create location?
A: We recommend using "Artscope" as your GPS destination rather than "2929 Tower Grove Ave." Enter the park on Kingshighway between Arsenal and Magnolia, and follow the road split to your right up to our cottage. We are located at the corner of Arsenal and Center Cross Drive, across the street from the Turkish Pavilion.
Q: Is Camp Create accessible for people with disabilities?
A: Unfortunately, due to the historic nature of our studio, our building is not wheelchair accessible. The bathroom can be accessed via a tight spiral staircase. Additionally, voices can reverberate loudly in our stone building, so those with auditory sensitivities might be more comfortable with noise-dampening devices.
Q: What is the refund policy for Camp Create?
A: Refunds are only issued for cancellations made at least two weeks prior to the start of camp. There may be some flexibility in moving a camp date if enrollment is low, but this should be checked with the Executive Director.
Q: Are masks required at Camp Create?
A: Masks are recommended in close quarters, but not required as per current CDC recommendations.
Q: Does Camp Create offer before or after care?
A: We only offer aftercare services during our summer camp from 3 - 6pm
Q: Are there scholarships available for Camp Create?
A: Yes, we do offer scholarships. Direct interested individuals to this form and send them this scholarship letter.
