Note: Our alumni adventure registrations have been filling up fast in Eventbrite lately, but not to worry! Email evie@bworks.org at least a week in advance of the alumni ride, and in most cases we can make room for more. But having a clear sense of numbers and participants in advance is critical to BWorks’ planning and execution of a successful, safe event. Thank you for being communicative!
SOME BACKGROUND
Earn-A-Bike is our hands-on class for students ages 8 to 17 who can already ride a bike on their own. Over the course of six two-hour sessions with our dedicated instructors, students hone basic bike maintenance and safety skills. They earn a refurbished bike of their choosing plus a lock, lights and helmet upon successful completion of the course.
Earn-A-Computer introduces young people to the inner workings and possibilities of computers and the internet — all while getting set to take home a refurbished desktop computer with monitor, keyboard, mouse and flash drive at the end of six class sessions. Like our other offerings, this free course is geared for students ages 8 to 17. Each class session is an hour and a half long.
Learn-To-Ride courses, which are open to students ages 8 to 17, are focused on learning to get up on two wheels. St. Louis BWorks provides all needed materials and instructors to help students achieve this goal (e.g. loaner bikes, plus helmets to keep). After successful completion of this four-week program, Learn-To-Ride students can go on, if they wish, to enroll in an Earn-A-Bike class (and then earn a bike!).
LATEST HIGHLIGHTS
A total of 109 BWorks students have already graduated from a multi-week program so far this calendar year, as of April 1, and we have 89 current students in classes presently underway. Another three groups of students will kick off in April, and an additional six groups begin in May.
We continue to grow our Earn-A-Bike, Learn-To-Ride and Earn-A-Computer program offerings, both at our headquarters in Soulard and in partnership with schools and other community organizations all around the St. Louis region.
None of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteers, energetic staffers and generous donors. Have a question about our programs? Want to help assist with a youth series? Eager for resources to help spread the word to area families? We’d love to hear from you. Email evie@bworks.org!
P.S. We are currently in particular need of small adult-size bikes and 24-inch-wheeled bikes. Our great students range in age from 8 to 17, and their heights are just as diverse! Every single bike they choose is one donated by a member of the local community and then beautifully fixed up like new by our team of staff and volunteers. Please keep those wonderful sets of wheels (and computers!) coming our way — and our kids having fun and learning!
