This course is an introduction for students who want to enact positive change via one of the most powerful mediums there is: personal voice. Working on content, style, clarity and more, students will examine and develop techniques that can help them persuade and make an impact – whether it be on-on-one or in a public setting.
Students will also hone their information literacy skills, examining the role of debate and punditry in the current media climate – why are some experts more successful than others? Taking on some of the most challenging topics humanity faces, students will analyze and deconstruct arguments, determining what is effective as well as what makes for loss of credibility. Finally, students will navigate debate and punditry in the professional world, looking ahead to possible careers paths and meeting with experts in the field.
