It’s time to get your G.I.R.L. on at Camp Chan Ya Ta! Campers will earn a piece of the Outdoor Experience Progression Patch (center patch for Daisies, level 2 for Brownies, and level 3 for Juniors) and a Camp Like a Girl fun patch (both patches provided by Service Unit 107 Daycamp). Activities include learning to canoe, shoot a bow and/or wrist rocket, go hiking and creek walking, make outdoor art, hold flag ceremonies, and give basic first aid. Singing camp songs, performing skits, and cooking campfire meals will add to the many memories we will make at Camp Chan Ya Ta.
Campers need to come prepared to be outside for the duration of camp each evening. Open-toed shoes are not safe for camp and should not be worn: any girl wearing open-toed shoes will not be allowed to shoot a bow, hike, or creek walk. Clothing should be loose-fitting, weather-appropriate, and not easily ruined…because we can get a bit messy at camp. Campers should bring an easy-to-carry (and age appropriate) day bag for carrying their water bottle, sack lunch, bandana, bug spray, and sun block. Cell phones and electronic devices should not be brought to camp so there is no fear of damage or loss.
Girls should pack a sack lunch for four of the five nights: their group will prepare and cook a meal over the campfire for the fifth night. Families are invited to attend Friday night’s “Camp Chan Ya Ta Live! Singalong and Skit Show.” We will all roast marshmallows and enjoy s’mores to finish out the week!
Campers will receive: one Outdoor Experience Progression Patch, one Camp Like a Girl fun patch, and one Camp Like a Girl T-shirt. T-shirt sizes are required with registration. Junior Girl Scouts are invited to stay for an overnight camp on Friday for an additional $15.00. An adult who volunteers for the entire week can have their Girl Scout attend for free (one per adult).
