Summer Leadership Academy

Black 2 the Land is our Summer Leadership Academy theme, and youth will learn and have unique experiences with and about Black Farmers and Growers. Young people ages 9 to 16 will spend a fun summer with Good Journey. Young people will cultivate Bustani Ya Upenda (Garden of Love in Kiswahili) Good Journey's youth community garden, participate in fun STEM projects, lead community projects, learn African dance and KiSwahili, study Black history that relates to their present world experiences, learn and write poetry, and create art that inspires. Young people will develop communication and leadership skills and learn to work collectively using consensu decision making to accomplish goals. Four to Six young people ages 16 to 25 have the opportunity to serve as youth mentors and receive a summer stipend. Scholarships are offered to youth participants, with preference given to families with access to less disposable income.
