Throughout history, graphic designers have created images and posters designed to illuminate issues and move audiences. The most effective have elevated poster design to create lasting works of art. Artists like Jesse Wilcox Smith, Emory Douglas, Jose Guadalupe Posada, and, more recently, Shepard Fairey, have created hand drawn posters recognized as fine art. In this camp, we draw inspiration from these and other designers to use printmaking and handwritten and drawn designs to create our own advocacy pieces.
