Open to rising 9th through 11th graders, this summer academic experience is multifaceted. In addition to test preparation, students will acquire college-level research and writing skills, especially in source literacy and academic citation. Each student will create a capstone project in either creative writing or history/political science. Together with an expert research and writing advisor, each camper will identify an outside conference or publication whose scope matches their project and submit the final project to it. Camp will culminate in the Summer Scholars colloquium. This is an excellent opportunity to begin building an academic resume and discover opportunities and venues to publish or present work.
Students may also choose to select only the test prep option. Standardized tests are an important part of the college admissions process and exposure to the test and practice with testing strategy can make a substantial difference to student’s scores. At Summer Scholars, we recognize that all students have different strengths and weaknesses. There is no single approach to test prep that works for everyone. Our experienced educators will teach ACT, PSAT, and SAT strategy and work with students to create an individualized study plan. Practice will be completed throughout the camp and a test prep book will be provided for students to extend their preparation.
