Brown Leadership Institute - Leadership and Intercultural Communication (Residential)

In this course, you will explore a range of intercultural communication theories and frameworks to become effective leaders. You will think critically and intentionally about your cultural identities and the various ways that such identities guide your behaviors, perceptions of your surroundings, interpersonal relationships, and positionality within social groups and systems. You will also consider how culture influences leadership styles, behaviors, and relationship-building to hold yourself accountable in remaining open and respectful yet critical of what we define as "cultural differences" in globalized settings. Designed as an interactive seminar, you will learn and apply intercultural concepts during class activities, many of which will include media analyses and dynamic exercises such as role-plays, simulations, and other forms of active engagement. This course is part of the Leadership Institute Online, a four-week academic program that helps students cultivate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes associated with effective and socially responsible leadership. The core elements of this unique program include the academic content based on the course of one's choosing and leadership content common to all courses, which includes the development of an Action Plan.
