If you dream of designing buildings, bridges, or parks, discover the possibilities in this hands-on course. This in-person course is designed to assist you in making an intelligent choice about a possible career in architecture. You will learn about careers in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design. Get the chance to learn basic design principles while completing your own design project. You will work on your active learning design projects and interact with graduate students in architecture while getting a taste of what it's like to be an architecture student. Experience creative, innovative ways to view the world through architectural design thinking. This course is offered through the School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation.

Terp Young Scholars delivers an academic experience that is at the forefront of theory, thought, and technology. Scholars attend class, learn about career opportunities, study, work on projects, prepare for exams, and interact with their equally talented peers in a rigorous academic setting. Classes generally meet for three hours a day between 9am-1pm, Monday – Friday. Acceptance is competitive, and based upon academic performance and recommendation. Terp Young Scholars also offers afternoon, evening, and weekend activities that provide a glimpse of UMD’s rich campus life. Seminars include sessions with Undergraduate Admissions, Learning Assistance Services, and The Observatory. Workshops feature Zumba, Yoga, Drawing, Bodycombat, and Salsa. Social activities include a weekend day-trip to Washington, DC, pool parties, mixers, ice cream social (with UMD ice cream), movies, and more.
