This summer, young people ages 9 to 16 will have fun learning lots of skills to take care of themselves and their community. They will will cultivate Bustani Ya Upenda (Garden of Love in Kiswahili) Good Journey's youth community garden, participate in fun STEM projects, learn African dance and KiSwahili, learn to use plants to dye clothes, study Black history that relates to their present experiences, learn and write poetry, and create art that inspires. Young people will develop communication and leadership skills and learn to work collectively using consensus decision making to accomplish goals. Four to Six young people ages 16 to 25 have the opportunity to serve as youth mentors and receive a summer stipend. Scholarships are offered to youth participants, with preference given to families with access to less disposable income.
